Meg Flather: Latest News

July 30, 2010

Meg brought her mother, Becky to The Shopping Channel of Canada on July 30th.  Take a peak at the fun!

Summer 2010 Newsletter - June 11, 2010

Hello Friends!

Where to begin? Well, we closed “Home Shopping Diva” at Don’t Tell Mama and were thrilled with the audience turn out and generous support we received from the singer/songwriter and Cabaret communities of NYC.

But by the end of the run, fellow artists were whispering in my ear, “Meg, we want more of your songs. We miss your music.” So, I took that suggestion to heart and now am dusting off the cobwebs of my singer/songwriter self. John Mettam and I are making our debut at 169 Bar on June 15 at 9 PM. This should be a refreshing, informal environment to share our three new tunes, music from the first five albums and take in the talent of fellow NYC based singer/songwriters. John plays the guitar and sings backing vocals like no other, while helping me savor the experience with his wit, warmth and calm. Bless you, John! (Please visit the calendar section of this website for our up-dated summer performance schedule.)

On the Home Shopping front, Perlier had wonderful January, March, April, May and June visits to The Shopping Channel of Canada. We launched our new facial product, Hydra-zone Smart Serum and Mediterranean Pomegranate and Super Fruits body lines. Our new Elariia flavors of White Tea & Bergamot, Cherry Blossom, Wild Flowers and Lotus Blossom seemed to be huge hits as well.  I want to thank all my loyal shoppers for experimenting and trying our new choices. We all get stuck in our routines, re-purchasing what we have always used. I am so thankful that you welcomed these launches with open arms and open bathtubs!

I am happy to report that I have begun consulting skin and beauty brands off camera using my sales training past. (Thank you, Clinique!) To my new friends at Silk'n, Sun Soul, Go Smile, Vapour Organic Beauty, TIPS and Leaf and Rusher Skin Care, you have been joys to work with. Thank you for including me in your creative process.  As they say, “It takes a village” and I am honored to play a small role in your beauty village. (Check out these brands on The Shopping Channel website! You will not be sorry, ladies and gents.)

Finally, I know there has been much troubling news blasting from our television and computer screens. It makes it hard to get up, get out, face our days and find the energy needed to pursue our paths. It is daunting to make sense of it all and trust that we will find solutions to fix these problems. Try to hold on to hope how ever you can. Please know that your friendship and support are what motivate me each day. Thank you again and again for supporting all things Meg.

Have a great summer.

Lots of love,

Your Home Shopping Diva

February 10, 2010

I am so sorry it took until mid February to sit down and share the latest news with you. I think the holiday season “did me in” this year.

I first want to thank all of you for showing up with such gusto for “Home Shopping Diva” at The Metropolitan Room on December 12th. We had such a full and festive bunch in the audience and it really made the close of our year at The Metropolitan Room very special. (Hard to believe it all started December 17th of 2009. Thank you. Thank you to all my new friends who make that club such a special and classy place to make music. We hope to be back in late May.)

Well, it looks like this show really works. Sharing the life lessons learned while selling cosmetics turned out to be universal entertainment after all. So, the band, (Paul Greenwood, John Mettam and Jamie Rogers) is up for the fun to continue. We are bringing the show to Don’t Tell Mama on Feb 19th at 9:15 PM and can not wait. I feel like I grew up on the Don’t Tell Mama stage. Christian Daizey and I, (when we called our act “Leather and Flather”) think our first show at Don’t Tell Mama took place during the summer of 1984. The place is still as warm, welcoming and generous to all musicians as ever. Sidney Myer created a real “run” for us, (Fridays February 19th, March 19th and April 16th at 9:15 PM.)

I also want to shout out to my wonderful circle of new and old MAC friends, (Manhattan Association of Cabarets.) It has been quite meaningful to connect with this group of supportive singers and comics.  I have attended several inspiring shows since re-joining the organization in early December. My resolution for 2010 was to create more community in my life. Well, this organization makes that resolution quite easy!

On the skin care front, Perlier had a great Show Stopper visit at The Shopping Channel on January 13th. It seems Double Latte is a real hit for our customers with very sensitive skin and our new florals, White Tea with Bergamot and Honeysuckle with 100% Organic Bearberry Extract were just what my Canadians needed to start their Olympic Game celebrations a little early. Please tune in for our next Show Stopper on March 9th.

Cathy Kangas of PRAI had a great launch on HSN on January 14th. She was so touched that her fans tuned in with such enthusiasm. Everyone at HSN welcomed her with open arms. (Did you see that beautiful set? Wow!) Cathy heads back with even more great PRAI offers in April. So, keep checking out the PRAI or HSN website for details.

I was thrilled to play an off-camera role in the launch of Vapour Organic Beauty on Shop NBC and The Shopping Channel of Canada. (Yes, Eric Sakas is as lovely off camera as he is on.) Vapour set records at both networks. I guess 100% organic make-up that nourishes and protects skin while offering great coverage is a very, very good thing!

Well, Jamie is sleeping and Peanut our 20 year old cat is begging for a late night snack. So, I will sign off for now. I am hoping that 2010 is treating you well so far. I think it is going to be a good year. (I always love even numbered years.) Warm wishes to you all.

November 25, 2009

Hello Friends!

Happy Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for all of you who support all things Meg or shall I say, all things Home Shopping Diva? But seriously, in these challenging times, I am so grateful for all your encouragement and will never take it for granted.

We have had a great season. The new show, “Home Shopping Diva… songs of love, loss and lipstick” opened at The Metropolitan Room on November 1st and the audience gave us a very enthusiastic two thumbs up. In this piece, I perform comic songs, songs of my own and covers composed and recorded by some of my favorite artists. I share the life lessons learned while standing behind many of the cosmetic counters of NYC that ultimately lead to my current home shopping career. You will enjoy composers like Nanci Griffith, Matraca Berg and Burt Bacharach, songs made famous by Annie Lennox and Mary Travers and comedic character pieces composed by John Kroner, Gary Gardner and Don Tucker.

The final performance of the year is on December 12th at 9:30 PM at The Metropolitan Room in NYC. It is hard to believe I have been playing The Metropolitan Room since my debut last December 17th. Thank you to my Metropolitan Room family for making us feel like rock stars each time we show up to perform. Please check out this website in the New Year to see our updated performance schedule. It should be really interesting to see how this concept evolves. There are so many stories to tell and countless songs to sing.

I had the great honor of appearing on both The Joey Reynolds and Barry Z radio shows in NYC, (check out the links on this website if you want to listen) and received another generous mention from The Daily News. Thank you to you fellows for helping this Home Shopping Diva with her cause.

I must finally thank all the incredible shoppers of Canada who tuned in on November 20th and supported Perlier in such a huge and generous way. We had a record number of show stoppers fly out the door. It was also my 7th anniversary promoting Perlier in Canada. So, I wish to thank all my friends on and off camera at The Shopping Channel for this wonderful ride. Lucky, lucky me to call you friends and examples of this art form that I love.

Finally, I wish to say to everybody, please take good care of yourselves during this holiday season. These indeed are challenging times and sometimes this season can be an emotional roller coaster to experience. So, do what your have to do to keep your chin up and heart full. Peace be with you and those you love.

Love,

Meg

Hello, Friends 2 - October 5, 2009

Hello, friends!

Where did the summer go? I am so sorry to be late with this next newsletter. Running Flather Enterprises is exhausting. :)

Anyway, we all had a blast wrapping up our run of “More View Points” at The Metropolitan Room on September 3rd.  With each show, we added new material and truly enjoyed paying tribute to the great female singers and songwriters who influenced this Home Shopping Diva. I want to thank all of you who attended.  It is such a gift to entertain you. Thank you. Thank you.

Then it was time to hit the home shopping road on September 10th. First I flew to Toronto for a great day of Perlier shows on The Shopping Channel. I want to thank all my Canadian shoppers who called me “live” on the air. Your personal stories, praise and suggestions mean the world to all of us at Perlier. You help us do better.

After a great day of Block Busters I finally got to see Toronto. (It only took me seven years.) What a thrill it was for me to take a tour bus and boat cruise to learn the history of your great city.

The next day I flew to the beautiful city of Vancouver to join Susan Yull and many of the TSC buying and marketing team members for a very exciting customer event. It was such an honor to meet many of my Perlier ladies from that part of Canada and sing to their warm and smiling faces. Thank you all for making the trip. We are so lucky to call you friends, let alone customers.

Then I finally hit the road to fly all the way to Sydney, Australia to promote PRAI Beauty facial products on TVSN, (Australia’s only home shopping network.) Jamie and I were so excited to look out our hotel room every day to find the stunning Manly Beach right across the street from where we were staying. (How do those surfers do it?) Everyone at TVSN made me feel so welcome. Good on you, Mates!

So, now I am back in NYC managing a wee bit of jet lag, but it is all worth it. (I have oodles of eye cream to hide the signs of sleep deprivation. Lucky me.)

So, what is next on the Flather agenda? Jamie, Paul, John, Marc, Ted and I are all working on my brand new one woman show to debut at The Metropolitan Room on November 1st at 4 PM. This show is called, “Home Shopping Diva… songs of love, loss and lipstick.” In this piece I will share the witty and poignant lessons I learned while working behind cosmetic counters of New York City, which paved the way for my home shopping career to take place.

Speaking of home shopping, all of us at Perlier are looking forward to celebrating our seventh anniversary at The Shopping Channel of Canada on November 20th. So, please tune in and see all the goodies Erin and the buying team have planned.

Thank you for reading. Enjoy this stunning season.

Hello Friends! - July 21, 2009

Hello Friends!

I am so excited that I have joined the 21st century with this beautiful website that John Mettam patiently put together. Wilma Flintstone Flather Rogers is feeling pretty current, I must say! John has so many talents as many of you know. He plays the drums, guitar, bass, piano, sings, co-writes music with me and now has set up www.megflather.com. (Please feel free to visit his website at www.cocktaildrum.com.)

So, July has been a great month. We performed More View Points at The Metropolitan Room to a wonderful crowd. I want to thank our gifted director, Marc Geller for attending every show and always raising the bar with his “spot on” suggestions and feedback.

Thanks to facebook, I was able to re-connect with friends from my past. I shout out a big thank you to Eldo Ray Estes for setting me up there. Liz Beckhardt from my High School of Music and Art days came all the way from Boston to see the show. Becky Knell, Brian and Jennifer Dorfman from my Roosevelt Island past all sat together. Karen Gogolin from my early years in Sudbury Massachusetts surprised me right before the show. Nobody has aged! It was pretty wonderful to sing to friends from every chapter of my life.

We were very lucky to have Roy Sander from Backstage in the audience and to receive mentions from The NY Daily News and The NY Post about the next August 13th show. I had a blast on The Joey Reynolds Show on WOR Radio on July 1st (You can listen to the show by clicking the link on this website!) I was on the three hour debut of The Ken Hudnall Show on Blog Talk Radio July 20th (This show is archived at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Ken-Hudnall.) Thanks, Ted Faraone for working so hard on press! You make me feel like a rock star!

On Wednesday, my wonderful band of musical brothers and I are going to meet to work on a few new view points so that any of you who return for the August 13th show will see a slightly different show. Thanks to my birthday gift of the iPod, I am having such fun re-connecting with the music of my past. I just downloaded Peter, Paul, and Mary’s Ten Years Together that my sisters and I would blast throughout the house while doing chores before Mom got home from work. I also found many of Nanci Griffith’s songs and hope to perform one of them in the August show. What would we do without music?

On the home shopping front, my wonderful friends in Canada all showed up on July 2nd for a great Perlier Organic Honey Show Stopper on The Shopping Channel. These wonderful shoppers also bought all my CD’s on sale that day! Thank you all for your support for the wonders of Italian bath and body and this girl singer’s music. We head back to The Shopping Channel on September 11th and then immediately take a trip to Vancouver to meet our west coast shoppers. The Shopping Channel has asked me to perform a few of my songs for the special cocktail reception on September 14th. How fun will that be to combine my three loves of music, skin care and Canadians? Very fun!

Please visit www.praibeauty.com to benefit from some great summer specials. Joyce Feinberg, our wonderful formulator told me that we will be launching some incredible new age defying products very soon. Let’s take ten more years off the faces of the world, what do you say?

Thank you all for reading. Be sure to check in for my next newsletter. ☺
